Popular hairstyles to try
These are the cuts people most often want to see before they commit: big changes in length, a first fringe, or a sharper short cut. Tap one to load it into the hairstyle changer above.
Short cuts and men’s styles
Crew cut
Short tapered sides with a little more length on top. A safe first choice for almost any face.
French crop
Short textured top pushed forward into a blunt or choppy fringe. Covers the temples and shortens a long forehead.
Textured crop
Messy, piecey top with a fade or taper. The texture adds visual volume to fine hair.
Quiff
Front lifted up and back with short sides. Adds height, which lengthens a round or square face.
Taper fade with short top
Sides fade from skin or a short guard into a short, natural top. Works with straight, wavy, curly, and coily hair.
Buzz cut
One short length all over. Shows the head shape and makes a receding hairline less obvious because there is no contrast at the front.
Bobs, lobs and layers
Lob (long bob)
A bob that ends between the chin and the shoulders. One of the most forgiving cuts for any face shape.
A-line bob
Shorter at the back and longer at the front. The front length falls past the jaw and slims a round face.
Shag
Lots of choppy layers, often with curtain bangs. Adds width at the sides, which shortens a long face.
Wolf cut
A mix of a shag and a mullet: volume on top, wispy length at the back.
Long layers
Length past the shoulders with layers starting below the chin. Adds movement without losing length.
Pixie cut
Very short all over with soft texture. Shows cheekbones and eyes; needs a trim every four to six weeks.
Bangs
Curtain bangs
Longer bangs parted in the middle that sweep to each side. The easiest bangs to try and to grow out.
Side-swept bangs
Long bangs brushed to one side. The diagonal line slims a round face and softens a square jaw.
Wispy bangs
Light, see-through bangs. A low-commitment option for fine hair.
Blunt bangs
Straight, heavy bangs at or just above the eyebrows. Shortens a long face; needs trims every two to four weeks.
Birkin bangs
Soft, eyelash-length bangs paired with long hair, slightly separated in the middle.
Bob with bangs
A chin or jaw-length bob with a full fringe. Frames the eyes and shortens a long face.
Why try a hairstyle on your photo first
A haircut is cheap to get and slow to undo. Growing out a pixie cut or blunt bangs can take months, and a reference photo of a model with different hair, a different face and professional lighting tells you very little about how the same cut will sit on you.
Seeing the style on your own face answers the questions that matter: does the length make your face look longer or wider, does a fringe hide too much of your forehead, does a short back and sides suit the shape of your head? You still need a good barber or stylist, but you walk in knowing what you want and what you do not.
It also makes it easy to compare. Try two or three versions of the same idea, for example a chin-length bob, a lob and long layers, and look at them side by side with the before and after slider. Often the winner is not the one you expected.
Tips for the best photo
- Face the camera straight on, with the phone at eye level. Tilted or low-angle shots distort face shape.
- Use soft, even light, such as a window in front of you. Avoid strong shadows from one side or harsh overhead light.
- Keep your whole head in the frame, including the top of your hair and your ears, with a little space around it.
- One person only. Remove hats, hoods and sunglasses; normal glasses are fine and are kept in the preview.
- Skip beauty filters and heavy editing. A plain, sharp phone photo works best.
- Hair down or loosely pulled back both work. Keep headbands, clips and scarves off your hairline.
The preview can only be as good as the selfie you give it, so a minute spent on the photo is worth it. If a result looks odd, a retake in better light usually fixes it.
What the preview can and cannot tell you
The AI hairstyle changer is good at showing the outline of a cut: length, volume, where a fringe falls, and how much forehead or jaw it shows. That is the part that decides whether a style flatters your face shape.
It cannot feel your hair. Fine hair may not hold the volume you see in a preview, thick hair may need thinning to look the same, and curly hair shrinks when it dries. Cowlicks and growth patterns are invisible in a photo. Your natural hair colour is kept, so colour changes are not part of the preview.
Image editing models are also not perfect. Most previews keep your face exactly as it is, but now and then skin tone, light or face width shift a little. Treat the result as a realistic sketch, then show it to your barber or stylist together with the barber card, which lists what to ask for on the sides, top and finish.
Pricing, honestly
- The face-shape analysis on our homepage is free and needs no sign-up. It suggests cuts that usually suit you.

Frequently asked questions
Is the AI hairstyle changer free?
Partly. Browsing the styles and the face-shape analysis on our homepage are free with no sign-up. To see a hairstyle on your own photo you sign in with Google, and your first preview is free (watermarked, 960 px). After that, previews use credits from one-time packs starting at $2.99 for 10.
Can I try hairstyles without signing up?
You can browse every style, filter by length or face shape and run the free face-shape analysis without an account. Generating a preview on your photo needs a Google sign-in, so we can give you one free preview and keep your previews private to your account.
Which hairstyles can I try on?
Our library has 51 haircuts: short men's cuts such as the crew cut, French crop, quiff and taper fade; bobs, lobs, layers, shags and pixie cuts; and bangs including curtain, blunt, wispy and side-swept. You can pick any of them directly, with no analysis needed.
How long does a preview take?
Usually about 45 seconds to a minute. At busy times it can take a few minutes; you can keep the page open, and finished previews also appear under My previews.
Will the AI change my face?
It is instructed to change only your hair and keep your face, expression, glasses, clothes, background and natural hair colour. Results are usually faithful, but AI editing is not perfect and skin tone or lighting can shift slightly. A clear, evenly lit photo gives the most accurate result.
Can I show the result to my barber or stylist?
Yes. Each style has a barber card that lists what to ask for on the back and sides, the top, the finish and upkeep. Paid previews can be downloaded in HD and added to the card; the free preview is watermarked.
What happens to my selfie?
A selfie is used only to produce your result. For the free analysis it is sent to our AI provider and not stored. For a try-on preview it is kept only until the preview is made, and previews are deleted after 30 days, or sooner if you delete them. We do not sell photos or use them to train AI models. The privacy policy has the details.
